| Slavoj Žižek (born 21 March, 1949 in Ljubljana, People's Republic of Slovenia, FPR Yugoslavia) is a Hegelian philosopher, Lacanian psychoanalyst, left-wing sociologist, and cultural critic. Žižek has made use of the works of twentieth-century French psychoanalyst Jacques Lacan in a new reading of popular culture. He writes on many topics including popular culture, the Iraq War, fundamentalism, capitalism, racism, tolerance, political correctness, ecology, globalization, subjectivity, human rights, myth, cyberspace, postmodernism, multiculturalism, Christianity, opera, post-Marxism, Lenin, Andrei Tarkovsky, David Lynch and Alfred Hitchcock.
